Wisdom Teeth

Do you have wisdom teeth?

Wisdom teeth are the last molars that usually appear during your late teens or early 20s. Not everyone has wisdom teeth and not all wisdom teeth need to be removed.

Is it necessary to remove wisdom teeth?

  • When it causes dental overcrowding (affecting other teeth in the area and your gums!)

  • When it causes decay and infection (this is when most of the pain occurs)

If left unremoved, it can cause teeth to come in sideways, causing crooked teeth. It can also affect your bite and lead to jaw problems.

Wisdom tooth pain causes:

  • Inflamed/Bleeding gums near wisdom tooth

  • Facial swelling

  • Fever

  • Bad breath

  • Pain and sensitivity

  • Jaw pain / Difficulty opening your mouth

  • Bad breath

Does wisdom teeth removal hurt?

At Pain Free Dentist Dulwich Hill, we aim to provide you a pain-free removal. Before beginning the procedure, we administer as much anesthetic as your body needs to numb the area around your wisdom tooth. At most, you will feel the pressure of the tooth leaving the socket but the use of anaesthesia makes the procedure painless. How long does the procedure take may vary.

Nervous about pain?

We offer various sedation options including:

  • Local anesthesia

  • Penthrox sedation (Inhalation)

  • IV sedation

More information about sedation can be found HERE.
